  • In 2018, the study tour will visit Berlin and Amsterdam.
  • The objective of the tour is to facilitate engagement with global practices in Graphic Design, Typography, Art and Ideas. It is scheduled to incorporate attendance at TypoBerlin, a design-focused three-day conference.
  • Students will also participate in multiple workshops in letterpress, screen printing and typography.
  • This tour offers students the chance to further their design skills and knowledge by participating in workshops, attending design conferences and engaging with international design institutions.
  • The knowledge students will gain during the tour will enable them to become better informed about the global reach of graphic design, as well as assist them with the development of their technical skills.
Program Itinerary (draft):
Early May: Amsterdam, The Netherlands 
Activities: Workshops, studio visits, cultural activities
Mid May: Berlin, Germany
Activities: Typo Berlin Design Conference, workshops, studio visits, cultural activities
 
Program Costs (Approximately):
  • The Collie Print Trust will be sponsoring 20 x students (plus staff) for this tour.
  • The total amount they will be contributing to the trip will be approximately $4250 per student.
  • In addition, students will be required to pay an estimated cost of AU$1,500.
This cost includes the following:
  • Airfares
  • Accommodation
  • Travel
  • Entrance/attendance fees
  • Some meals
Additional Costs to consider:
  • RMIT tuition fees
  • Host country visa/s (if applicable)
  • Personal expenses, including food
  • Additional travel insurance ** Students are now covered by RMIT’s travel insurance, although you may require additional cover depending on your circumstances.
Cancellation Fee:
All fees are handled through the Architectural Association School of Architecture (36 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3ES) . RMIT University has no control over this.

More information regarding accommodation options will be provided to students upon acceptance into the program.

Eligibility:
This program is open to students who have an active enrolment in one of the following programs:
  • AD022 - Associate Degree of Graphic Design
  • C6127 - Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design
Academic Credit:
  • Students in AD022 can gain credit towards GRAP2533 Graphic Design Studio 1 or GRAP2540 - Design Industry Engagement
  • Students in C6127 can gain credit towards GRAP5342C Originate Graphic Designs for Complex Briefs or GRAP5341C - Engage in the Business of Graphic Design

You will be required to complete the following questionnaires:

2. Short Term Mobility: General Information
Under Additional documents section- upload a Statement of purpose addressing the below questions:
  • The student financial contribution to the Study Tour is $1,500 and will be invoiced by RMIT as an Excursion Fee. We also ask each student to have $800 - $1,000 in additional funds for any personal expenses, including food. You will also need to pay for your mobile phone costs. How will you fund this?
  • How will you manage your school workload and still actively participate in the Study Tour?
  • The Study Tour will include visits to Berlin and Amsterdam, and already has some key events organized. Can you please suggest design related activities in these locations that you think would be beneficial to all participants on the Study Tour. They may be any time of day, and may relate to what you already know of our intended events, eg. TypoBerlin in Berlin
  • We ask that each student have a working mobile phone and be willing to make or receive calls or other communication when necessary, for themselves, and also in support of the staff or students on tour with them. Do you agree to have a working and unlocked mobile phone during the study tour? Y or N.
  • There are a number of $2500 Endeavour grants available to VE Australian citizens or residents only. If you are eligible to receive one of these grants, can you please indicate how it would help you in participating in the tour.
Funding:
For Autumn 2018, there are:
  • 10 x $2500 Endeavour grants available to Advanced Diploma students who are Australian citizens or Permanent Residents only.
