RIIERP bannerProgram Details:
The RMIT's International Industry Experience and Research Program (RIIERP) provides opportunities for students across all RMIT disciplines to undertake international work experience and research within leading organisations in Europe, North America and Asia. RIIERP offers work placement and collaborative research opportunities. These program components have been designed to match student needs with company requirements and to maximise the relevance of participating students' current level of study and experience. 

RIIERP aims to:
  • To provide students with the opportunity to carry out their industry work experience at overseas companies and by so doing get them exposed to work ethics in a different cultural environment
  • To facilitate the production of graduates who are worldly in their outlook and hence globally employable
  • To provide students/graduates with a wide range of infrastructure for the development of their vocational and research skills
  • To provide RMIT the means of assessing the quality of its students/graduates from a global perspective
  • To promote RMIT’s interaction with institutions/companies who have best practice in the relevant areas of expertise

  • Minimum GPA 2.0 or higher; AND
  • At least in the third year of your four or five year program; OR
  • At least in the second year of your three year program; OR
  • Undertaking a postgraduate program.
Academic Credit:
All students participating in the RIIERP program will be required to enrol into one of the following course codes:
  • MIET2066 - International Industry Experience 2 (Undergraduate)
  • MIET2084 - International Industry Experience 2 (Postgraduate)
Both courses are worth 24 credit points and may be counted towards your degree. If you would like the course to be credited towards WIL, electives or core courses, please confirm this with your program coordinator. 

Program Cost:
As part of the enrolment requirement of this program, please be aware that you will be required to pay tuition fees associated with a 24 credit point course.

Application Process:
Your application should be treated as though you are applying for a job. Please read the conditions of participation carefully before submitting an application.
  • You will need to submit the following documents with your application on Mobi by 20 May 2018 (extended deadline):
    1. Cover letter addressed to Professor Sylvester Abanteriba
    2. Comprehensive Resume/CV
    3. Academic Transcript
    4. Completed RIIERP Application Form (two page application)
  • Upload above documents to Questionnaires > 2. Short Term Mobility: General Information > 5. Additional Supporting Documents 
  • Select "No" to > 2. Short Term Mobility: General Information > 6. Consideration for funding, as RIIERP participants receive student allowances from the host companies
Selection Process:
After applications have been assessed, eligible students will undergo an interview to establish their suitability for participation in the program. Students will be assessed based on academic performance (60%) and interview responses (40%). 

Interviews will take place in June 2018. Upon the completion of all interviews, students will receive an email with their application outcome.

You will be required to complete the following assessments within 2 weeks of your return to Melbourne.
  • Discipline Report
  • Cultural Report
  • Reflective Journal
  • Company supervisor assessment
After you have submitted your reports, you will be scheduled for a presentation on your discipline and cultural report. Each presentation should be 25 minutes long with 5 minutes of question time.
