ACICIS DSPP
Journalism Professional Practicum (JPP) Program Details: 

Program Host: ACICIS (hosted at Atma Jaya University)
Program Dates: 02 January – 16 February 2019

 
  • The ACICIS Journalism Professional Practicum (JPP) is suitable for students of journalism, media and communication studies, cadet journalists, and early career professionals.
  • The JPP provides an opportunity for students of journalism, media and communication, to gain valuable experience working in the field of media in Indonesia.  Host organisations cover a wide range of media sector interests and include international news wire services, national news bureaus, national dailies, and major domestic broadcasters and radio stations.
  • The JPP runs for six weeks in Indonesia, including a two-week intensive Indonesian language study and industry-led seminars at Atma Jaya University, followed by a four-week supervised industry placement. 
  • As an assessed program, the JPP is designed to meet requirements for work-integrated learning modules and other practicum-based course components.
  • The JPP is designed for students who have no existing Indonesian language skills. Candidates with existing language skills are also welcome. All industry placements provide an English-language working environment.
Eligibility:
  • This program is suitable for senior undergraduate students and postgraduate coursework students enrolled in School of School of Media and Communication programs.
  • An approved study plan from your Program Coordinator (see details in application process below)
Academic Credit:
  • Eligible students can receive 24 credit points towards your RMIT program
  • Students will enrol into 24 credit points of Study Abroad EXTL course codes. Enrolment details will be provided to successful applicants.
  • Your RMIT Tuition fee is waived as you pay tuition fees directly to ACICIS.
Program Cost:
Students must ensure they have sufficient funds to cover all associated costs outlined below.
  • ACICIS Tuition fee- AUD$3,375 
  • Administration and Orientation fee- AUD$409 (payable upon acceptance into the program).

  • Spending money- Food, transportation, etc
  • Travel insurance (additional coverage, if applicable)
Travel Insurance:
Students on approved overseas activities receive complimentary travel insurance (policy number: 41443), although you may require additional cover depending on your circumstances.

Accommodation:
  •  Students will be provided with accommodation during the orientation period for all programs.  
  • ACICIS will assist students with finding appropriate longer-term accommodation.

Application Process:
Step 1: RMIT School Approval
  • Confirm approval with your program coordinator by getting a study plan signed (You can do this at the same time as getting the ACICIS application forms signed).
  • As part of the ACICIS application process, the following documents require the signature of your program coordinator:
  • University Approval Form
Step 2: Apply directly to ACICIS by:
  • 1 July (first round applications)
  • 1 September (second round applications)
Step 3: After you've applied directly to ACICIS, register here on Mobi by 1 October via the "Apply Now" button above. Make sure you complete the following questionnaires on Mobi and upload the required documents below:
1. Outbound Student Mobility: General Information 
     - Upload a copy of current passport (or submit an old one with proof you are applying for a new one) 
2. Short Term Mobility: General Information  
   - Under Section 3: Academic Approval, upload your completed and approved study plan 
   - Under Section 5. Additional Supporting Info and/or Documents, upload a copy of your completed ACICIS application form

Ensure that you click submit on all required sections to finalise your registration in this program.

Step 4: The Global Experience Office will contact you once you have completed your registration in Mobi to advise of the next steps (eg predeparture info, enrolment, etc).

Step 5: The Global Experience Office will also review your Mobi registration and assess if you are eligible to receive one of the New Colombo Plan (NCP) mobility grants available for the ACICIS programs.

Step 6: Students will be required to attend a Pre-departure session prior to departure.

Funding:
For the Summer 2018 (jan to Feb 2019)  term:
  • There are 11 x $3000 New Colombo Plan (NCP) grants available for eligible Australian citizens enrolled in a bachelor/bachelor honours program. 
Please check the Scholarships website and Global Experience website for additional funding options. Students may also be eligible for the Australian Government OS-Help Loan Scheme.
