In this Global Intensive studio students will investigate contemporary food culture, politics and issues with a focus on re-conceptualizing how food is produced, transported, prepared, consumed and post consumption. Melbourne and Barcelona will serve as two key sites of investigation, students will explore these cities, their food culture, context and issues as well as where the food comes from and where it goes post consumption. Central concerns will be ecology, health, food culture, experience of food, how food culture shapes a city and food as a social and cultural ‘glue’, ethics and social concerns. Working in groups students will develop a proposition for a ‘zero carbon’ urban food system demonstrated through a public exhibition and food event.
