  • Location: Taichung, Taiwan
Spend your Winter in a country known for its delicious cuisine and night markets. For four weeks, immerse yourself in Taiwanese culture while gaining credit towards your degree.This is a great opportunity to make new friends around the world!

Students travel as a group to Taichung, with Business Student Ambassadors as group leaders.  An RMIT staff member will accompany students for the first week to help settle in and engage students in running an “Australia Night” event to help promote Melbourne and RMIT study to Feng Chia students.

  • Religions, Folk Beliefs and Temples in Taiwan
  • Field Study: Lukang & National Palace Museum & Wanhua Lungshan Temple

  • Taiwanese Food Culture
  • Chinese Medicine
  • Indigenous Peoples & Culture in Taiwan
  • An expatriate in Taiwan
  • Taiwanese Music
  • Taiwanese Culture Innovation
  • Additional Chinese Art Classes:
  • Taiji and Qigong
  • Chinese Knotting
  • Rice Dough Figure
  • There will also be additional field trips.
Compulsory pre and post-departure workshops:  
These sessions will be held to go through preparation information and expectations. Flight tickets will also be given out at one of the sessions. A follow up session will be held on return to reflect on the experience. More info about the workshops will be provided in due course (dates tbc). 

Important info:
Selected students (ambassadors and first year students) will travel as a group to Taiwan as per the set dates (leave on 1st July and return on 28th July). Travel arrangements will be made on your behalf with a travel agent.

**Please note that you will be returning at the end of week 2 of Semester 2.  If you have any concerns about missing this academic time, please speak to your Academics or Course Coordinators for advice on how to best prepare.

Enrolment and Academic Credit:
If successful in your application, you will be enrolled into a 12 credit point general elective course. Your assessment will be delivered by FCU and marks recorded against the elective on your RMIT transcript.

Base Eligibility Criteria :
First Year Students:
  • Be currently enrolled in the first year of an RMIT Undergraduate College of Business program (no more than 48 credit points completed)
  • Be a domestic student (Funding for this trip is from the New Colombo Plan which is restricted by the Government to Australian Citizens)
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 28 (Funding requirement)
  • Have 1 general elective available in your program plan
  • Have a current and valid passport, with at least 6 months of validiity from the date of the program
  • Have completed all application steps and attended interviews

Group Leaders:
  • Be a current College of Business Student Volunteer in Semester 1, 2018 (Ambassador, Student Rep, Buddy)
  • Have a GPA of 2.0 or more
  • Have 1 general elective available in your program plan
  • Due to the restrictions of the New Colombo Plan Government Funding, Ambassadors are also subject to the following criteria;
    • Be a domestic student
    • Be between the ages of 18 and 28
    • Be an Undergraduate student
  • Have completed all application steps and attended interviews
Application Process:
First Year Students (and Ambassadors)
1. Submit a supplementary application form detailing why you wish to take part in the program: First Year Program Supplementary Application Form
2. Applications will be assessed and shortlisted.
3. Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a group interview/task;
Friday 16th March, 3.00-4.00pm, 80.05.12   - or -   Tuesday 19th March, 1.30-2.30pm, 80.05.12   - or -   Tuesday 20th March, 10.30-11.30am, 80.04.18
4. Selected students will then be provided with additional info as to how to complete the FCU application as well as RMIT registration on Mobi (this must be done by 29th March)
6. Further information regarding group arrangements and pre-departure sessions will be communicated in due course.

Funding 2018:
  • 18 x $3,000 New Colombo Plan mobility grants for first year students
  • 4 x $3,000 New Colombo Plan mobility grants for Student Ambassadors
  • The funding amount is to pay for flights, accommodation and any host institution fees. If program costs exceed funding, students are responsible for paying the difference.

Program Costs:
Total Program Cost: To be confirmed, below is an indication of costs based on previous deliveries.

RMIT Tuition Fees: You will be enrolled into an exchange course code, with tuition fees to be paid to RMIT through your usual tuition fee method (FEE-HELP, up front). RMIT tuition fees for a 12 credit point course.  Link to fee information: Domestic students
Summer Program Tuition: Due to current exchange partner balances, fees will be waived for 10 places, with the remaining 12 to pay $900US fees
Accommodation: Approx. $650 (TBC) for the 4 weeks. Students will stay together in shared student dormitories.
Flights: Flights for the group are arranged through an RMIT approved travel agent, Approx $1500 (actual cost to be confirmed by travel agent).

Additional costs to consider:
  • Visa: Taiwan allows a stay of up to 90 days without a visa

    *Students with completed Mobi registrations are covered by RMIT’s travel insurance, although you may require additional cover depending on your circumstances. Please read the insurance document to find out if you need additional cover for valuables etc. RMIT’s travel insurance
