Australian classrooms are increasingly multicultural which means that teachers are expected to be able to cater for the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds. To be able to teach culturally diverse students, teachers need to have a strong sense of their own culture and how that shapes how they teach, as well as an appreciation of other cultures and what these cultures bring to the classroom. At RMIT we have created an opportunity for pre-service teachers to develop a sense of self and appreciation of cultural diversity through participating in a three-week immersion experience as an elective placement for third year Bachelor of Education Students. If successful you will complete a 3-week placement in a rural village in the hills of Nepal, overlooking the mighty Himalaya mountains. Students who participated in this unique experience in the past have referred to it as 'life changing' and 'transformative.'

During the week you will be teaching Primary aged children. With few resources, you will have to be creative with what you do have and with an understanding that teachers in Nepal currently teaching  by rote.
