About your Experience
Huawei Seeds for the futureChina Experience: Huawei Seeds for the Future is 3 week work study program based in China. Students spend an initial period in Beijing where they gain mandarin language training and learn about Chinese culture at Beijing Language and Cultural University. Students are then flown to Huawei’s HQ in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, where they learn about Huawei’s international business culture and values, visit Huawei’s F1 Exhibition Centre; Enterprise Exhibition Hall; Logistics Centre; R&D labs and one of Huawei’s state-of-the-art factory facilities. Students also obtain hands-on  technical training from some of the finest professionals in the industry.

Dates: 24 November to 13 December 2018 
Available places: Huawei will interview up to a maximum of 7 RMIT candidates shortlisted by RMIT Careers and Employability to fill the 5 positions available on this program.
Venue: Beijing and Shenzhen

Eligibility:
  • Australian Citizen
  • Be aged between 18 & 28 years
  • Not previously received one short term or semester grant from the Colombo Mobility program: with or without an internship during course of Australian study
  • Studying a STEM or related discipline
  • Undergraduate student in 2-3rd year of study (middle year)
Other criteria:
  • Demonstrate excellent academic acumen
  • Strong interest in telecoms and technology issues
  • Fascinated by the rise of Asia and are keen to get practical experience from a dynamic global business
Academic credits:
To participate in this program, you need to able to claim credits against your RMIT studies (eg against an elective or a core course). Please contact your school/program coordinator for approval - this can be done in the form of a study plan.


Program cost:
This program is funded jointly by Huawei and RMIT covering the following costs:
  • Return economy flights to China (includes domestic flights required as part of the program)
  • Accommodation in China
  • Ground transfers required as part of the program
  • VISA application costs
  • Meals
Additional costs not covered to consider (but not limited to):
  • tuition fees
  • personal expenditure
  • additional travel insurance coverage
** RMIT student travel insurance:
Students on approved overseas activities receive complimentary travel insurance (policy number: 41443), although you may require additional cover depending on your circumstances.

Application, Selection and Registration process: 
  • Apply for this program directly to Huawei (www.huaweiseedsforthefuture.com.au) by 31 August 2018. Applications must include:
    • the Huawei online application form 
    • a submission that answers “Why science and technological innovation is essential for Australia’s future?” The submission should not exceed 300 words.
    • a copy of your latest RMIT transcript.
  • RMIT Careers and Employability will shortlist and nominate up to 7 students to Huawei by 17 September 2018.
  • Students shortlisted by RMIT Careers and Employability must register on Mobi by 24 September 2018.
  • Huawei will then interview the shortlisted candidates and select 5 RMIT students.
  • Candidates will be notified of the outcome by Huawei in the week commencing on 15 October 2018.
  • Successful candidates must finalise their registration on Mobi by 05 November 2018.
Additional info:
  • Successful applicants will be expected to attend a briefing session prior to departure where they will have the opportunity to meet with others participating in the program.
  • This is a non-salaried work experience programme and participation does not imply that employment is guaranteed following graduation.
Funding:
In 2018, there are up to 5 x $4000 mobility grants available for this program (made up of $3000 from the New Colombo Plan and $1000 from RMIT Global Experience Office).
